About the PetsWear Collection
The PetsWear Cat Jacket exists because Heidi applied the same logic to pet clothing that she applies to everything else: if it's worth making, it's worth making properly. Most commercially available pet clothing is either poorly fitted (one-size-fits-most means fits-none), poorly constructed (seams that fail after two washes), or made from fabrics that cats find irritating. Heidi's jackets are individually made to your cat's actual measurements, in fabrics selected for both appearance and feline comfort, with construction designed around the specific demands of dressing a cat.
Measurement & Fitting
Getting the sizing right for a cat requires three measurements: neck circumference (where a collar would sit), chest circumference (at the widest point behind the front legs), and back length (from the base of the neck to the base of the tail). Heidi uses these measurements to draft a pattern specifically for your cat — no generic sizing adjustment, no hoping the medium fits your specific cat's proportions.
The jacket design avoids the two most common cat-clothing comfort failures: excessive coverage (cats typically tolerate partial-body coverage much better than full-body coverage) and difficult closure systems. The velcro closures can be opened and closed in seconds by a single person, which is important when dressing an animal with opinions about the process.
Construction & Safety
All hardware is firmly attached — no loose buttons or embellishments that could be chewed off. Seams are finished to prevent any rough edges against the skin. The fabric is pre-washed to eliminate any finishing chemicals. The jacket is machine washable. No elastic is used in locations that could cause discomfort or restrict breathing.
Frequently Asked Questions
You need three measurements: (1) neck circumference — where a collar would sit; (2) chest circumference — at the widest point just behind the front legs; (3) back length — from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Heidi will provide a measurement guide with your order confirmation.
The jacket is designed to be as comfortable and non-intrusive as possible, but it can't guarantee a cat will tolerate it. Cats vary enormously in their tolerance for clothing. Introduction should be gradual — short supervised sessions to start.
Contact for current fabric options. Heidi selects fabrics that are comfortable against cat skin — avoiding scratchy weaves and preferring soft cottons and cotton blends.
The construction avoids loose embellishments and uses velcro rather than buttons. Supervised wear is always recommended; no pet clothing should be worn unsupervised.
Dog jackets can be commissioned on request — same measurement and construction process. Contact to discuss.
